Back in July Hungarian symphonic metal band, Meteora, announced the forthcoming release of three EPs, a trilogy of drama, high emotion and magnificent metal. The first of these, In this Silence, burst onto the international music scene in August and was widely acclaimed by critics and fans alike, with Rebel Extravaganza declaring it to be “symphonic metal played passionately. Done right.” One thing In this Silence certainly achieved was to leave fans excited and impatient for the second part of Meteora’s ambitious trilogy…which is now about to be revealed! Broken Mind builds on the foundations set down by In this Silence and sees Meteora’s sound evolving in accomplished and spectacular directions, reaching even greater heights than before.
Broken Mind begins with its title track, a song which keyboard player, composer and one of Meteora’s triumvirate of vocalists, Atilla Király, declares a band favourite; “Its heaviness appeals to the rhythm section, the almost pop-like chorus is one of Noémi’s favourites to sing and it’s keyboard lines are just fun to play” he enthuses. Noémi Holló is Meteora’s female lead vocalist and her angelic tones are utterly enchanting throughout songs like ‘Morningstar’ and entwining and contrasting with the smooth tenor of Atilla Király on the haunting ‘Elysion’. ‘In My Name’ concludes Broken Mind in the most majestic manner – a rare jewel of a song, epic in nature, overflowing with emotion and driven by superb guitar riffs. With every release the depth of Meteora’s talent and creativity becomes more apparent, their confidence in their own identity more unshakeable. Their remarkable journey continues and the future for these storytellers and song weavers looks bright indeed.
The team of sonic sorcerers who breathed such vibrant life into In this Silence have once more worked their magic upon Broken Mind - recording engineer Balázs Pálfi (Türböwitch etc), mixing and mastering team Nino Helfrich (Thrash Cult, Traces Of A Life etc), Dmitry Kim (Khors, Arhat etc) and Joel Wanasek (Machine Head, Carnation, Dååth etc). Broken Mind sounds richly textured, enveloping and enthralling, drawing from a stunning palette of sonic shades and colours. Complete with the striking artwork of Dronicon Films (Swallow The Sun, Katatonia, October Tide etc), Broken Mind will be unveiled by H-Music Hungary on October 17th, while the first single – ‘Broken Mind’ itself – is available now, complete with a video created by Kill Monday Management.
