NYTT LAND comment: "In all truth, 'Totem' is a spell that is part of the Mansi tribe's ritual traditions, who preserve their ancestral faith and shamanic lore in the wild forests of Western Siberia and the Ural Mountains to this day", throat singer and multi-instrumenalist Anatoly Pakhalenko explains. "This is not just a song, it is a real and ancient ritual of worshipping the elder spirits of the forest. Prepare to become a part of it."

On their tenth full-length "Aba Khan", NYTT LAND pick up the stylistic thread that they had previously woven with "Ritual" (2021). This means, the music is generally based on a foundation of current ritual dark folk to which the duo from Siberia adds elements from the native traditions of their home among other ingredients.

It is important to mention the sonic base from which NYTT LAND set out as the band also creates releases that aim to authentically preserve and reconstruct the ancient and still living shamanic traditions of Siberia as embodied by their previous album "Songs of the Shaman" (2025).

Although NYTT LAND return to the less strict and rather popular formula with "Aba Khan", their inspiration has still come from a whole year of travelling through the vast territories of Siberia. The couple discovered new areas and got acquainted with spiritual traditions of the indigenous peoples that they met. The result of this journey is a collection of priceless treasures that has been respectfully translated into a contemporary musical language.

NYTT LAND was created in August 2013 as a ritualistic Nordic folk band and driven by the musical vision of the husband and wife duo Natalya and Anatoly Pakhalenko. The couple lives in the Western Siberian town Kalachinsk that is located on the banks of River Om and crossed by the Trans-Siberian Railway.

In the wake of three self-released albums, "Nytt Land" (2013), "Hávamál" (2015), and "Scopun: Songs from the Elder Edda" (2016), their label debut "Fimbulvinter" hit the streets in 2017 and was followed by the 2018 full-length "Oðal". The latter works opened many doors for the duo, who performed across Europe at viking, folk, and metal festivals – including the UK at the York Viking Centre Festival in 2018. Even before the global release of "Fimbulvinter", NYTT LAND had already supported several Russian concerts of the Norwegian genre pioneers WARDRUNA in 2016 and 2017.

Despite working with a label, NYTT LAND also continued to self-release albums, mostly as an outlet for those albums that are dedicated to the preservation of Siberian traditions. In a natural development, the native element also surfaced more often on the label releases starting with "Ritual" (2021).

True to their often dark and mysterious subjects, the lyrics of NYTT LAND echo myth and stories from legends and historical sources. Those are told in the languages of both indigenous Siberian tribes and Old Norse, with the balance gradually shifting towards the former over time.

NYTT LAND dedicate "Aba Khan" to the great and beautiful and ancient lands of Siberia. Join them on a journey through time and space where spirits rule, shamans protect the people, and old gods whisper.
