Formed in 2012 and featuring members of Foetal Juice and Burial, Manchester’s Wolfbastard have become notorious for their fermentation of bile, belligerence, black metal and punk. Over the course of three vicious, confrontational albums – including 2022s acclaimed Hammer The Bastards – these purveyors of profane aggression have earned a reputation for delivering addictive, bone-breaking, sonic violence. And now they’re back with the support of a new label – Apocalyptic Witchcraft – and their filthiest offering of indiscriminate savagery to date, Satanic Scum Punks!
From the anthemic fury of the title track to the bilious and hateful ‘Fuck The Bastards’ there is nothing subtle about this latest outpouring of malice from Wolfbastard. The likes of ‘Manic Street Creatures’ and ‘You Fucking Rat’ will have you dreaming of hot as hell, claustrophobic venues and a rain of stage divers, feeling a junkie-like desire to throw your broken body into the pit, to hit and get hit. Elsewhere ‘Blood On Steel’ carries the creeping fear that follows you into dark alleyways, broken glass crunching underfoot and menacing movement in the shadows ahead, while ‘Hail Satan Kurwa’ is simply awesome when its full force is unleashed in a glorious, exhilarating blast. Then, summing up everything that Wolfbastard are in two and a half magnificent, adrenalized minutes there is the defining ‘Drink For Hell’, with its forget about tomorrow, riot today, don’t give a fuck attitude. Satanic Scum Punks is an explosion of raw chaos and Wolfbastard’s most powerful statement of intent yet.
